« They Kill You With Cotton » est emprunté à une citation iranienne à laquelle Nasim Najafi Aghdam fait référence dans une de ses émissions : “There they kill you by ax, here they kill you with Cotton”, Là-bas ils vous tuent avec une hache ici ils vous tuent avec du coton, comparant ainsi les méthodes iraniennes brutales, mais directes aux méthodes sournoises et doucereuses américaines. La phrase ainsi isolée évoque également l’exploitation du coton aux USA, intrinsèquement liée à la maltraitance de l’esclavage humain, ce qui la rend doublement ambiguë.
They Kill You With Cotton est le titre mon exposition à Air de Paris en 2019.
“ They Kill You With Cotton ” is borrowed from an Iranian quote that Nasim Najafi Aghdam refers to in one of his shows: “There they kill you by ax, here they kill you with Cotton”, There below they kill you with an ax here they kill you with cotton, thus comparing the brutal but direct Iranian methods to the sneaky and smooth American methods. The sentence thus isolated also evokes the exploitation of cotton in the USA, intrinsically linked to the mistreatment of human slavery, which makes it doubly ambiguous.
They Kill You With Cotton is the title of my exhibition at Air de Paris in 2019.
