“Du 16 novembre au 15 décembre 2001, les activités de la galerie associatives La BF15 à Lyon sont temporisées par la mise en œuvre d’une structure de production : la création et le fonctionnement à durée déterminée d’un atelier de confection. Recrutés par petites annonces dans la presse locale, des ouvriers du textile réalisent durant le temps de l’exposition des tee-shirts bon marché. La production journalière de tee-shirts est rythmée par la sélection d’un dessin de presse. Motif ou commentaire caricatural, chaque image, transférée sur tee-shirt, marque au jour le jour le calendrier détourné de ce lieu d’exposition et de ce qui s’y produit.”
La BF15 est un lieu ouvert sur la place des Terreaux à Lyon, juste en face du Palais des Beaux-Arts. Lors d’un réaménagement récent de l’espace urbain, cette place est investi par l’artiste Daniel Buren. La galerie dont le rez-de-chaussée est vitré est donc pénétrée par cette architecture historique et tournée vers l’art contemporain. Au travers de LAPS, l’espace de la BF15 redevient un atelier d’expérimentation, qui propose au spectateur de suivre la réalisation de vêtements. De l’extérieur comme de l’intérieur, cet espace ressemble à un simple local occupé par des travailleurs.
“From November 16 to December 15, 2001, the activities of the association gallery La BF15 in Lyon are timed out by the implementation of a production structure: the creation and the fixed-term operation of a clothing workshop. Recruited by classified ads in the local press, textile workers during the time of the exhibition make cheap T- shirts. The daily production of T-shirts is punctuated by the selection of a press cartoon. Cartoon motif or commentary, each image, transferred to a T-shirt, marks day by day the diverted calendar of this exhibition space and what happens there.”
The BF15 is a place open on the Place des Terreaux in Lyon, just in front of the Palais des Beaux-Arts. During a recent redevelopment of the urban space, this square was taken over by the artist Daniel Buren. The gallery, whose ground floor is glazed, is therefore permeated by this historic architecture and turned towards contemporary art.
Through LAPS, the BF15 space becomes again an experimentation workshop, which offers the viewer the opportunity to follow the making of clothes. From the outside as from the inside, this space looks like a simple room occupied by workers.
